We do WANs
WANs, wide-area-networks, also interconnect computers, much like
local-area-networks. The difference is that the connection uses
long-distance elements, such as telephone equipment or the Internet.
The easiest method of creating a WAN is to connect a single computer to the
Internet. You then have a WAN providing network access to other computers
all over the world using the Internet as the communication medium. Each
machine on the Internet has its own rules regarding access and usage and its
own set of information to which it provides access. Each machine controls
only its own endpoint on the network. Prior to the Internet, offices
began connecting to each other using dedicated, privately owned
communication lines. Each office housed a computer or clusters of computers
on a LAN. Examples are banking networks and television distribution. This
type of WAN allows the owner to limit the connectors to only his own
equipment and to control the computing at both ends of the connection. Such
WANs are still in use.
A VPN (virtual-private-network) provides the same functionalities as
other WANs but in a different way. It is created by supplying IP addresses
of the machines to be part of the network. The Internet then creates a
virtual-private-connection or "tunnel" between machines or offices by
encrypting data passed between them such that only the machines at the
end-points of the "tunnel" can access or read the data. This provides
security and other facilities the same as or better than the privately owned
networks at substantially less cost.
COMPLETE NETWORK SOLUTIONS is experienced in each of the above WANs. We can
design and implement a VPN for you as we have for others. We can
troubleshoot and repair one that isn't working properly. Call us for
